The news broke the next day, a day earlier than intended. Early radio news reports made it sound as though 1 had been guilty of selling secrets, although my name wasn't mentioned, of course, but they got it right later.

 

It was really rather a shame that Lev had to go - he was a nice guy, despite his activities. I guess he was just doing his job. Of course, the Soviet Embassy denied everything. They even denied that he had ever had contact with Embassy staff, a claim I know to be untrue.

 

I was given back the bottles of booze and the cash. If only they hadn't nabbed him, who knows what sort of money I might have been able to make? It was money for old rope, selling documents given to me by the RCMP. I wonder if Communist bribes are taxable - I don't see a space for them on the income tax form.
